MACON - Avrom Alvin Roobin, D.D.S., 83, of 101 Covington Place died Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at his residence. Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 20, 2002 at 12:00PM at William Wolff Cemetery with Rabbi Uri Goren officiating. The family may be contacted at the residence.
A native of Cordele, GA. Dr. Roobin graduated from Atlanta Southern Dental College, now Emory School of Dentistry, in 1941 where he was elected to Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Scholastic Dental fraternity and was a member of Alpha Omega Dental fraternity. Dr. Roobin interned at the U. S. Marine Hospital in New Orleans, LA in 1941 and 1942 and served in the Armed Services from 1942 until 1946.
DR. Roobin served as the first president of the Macon Dental Study Group and as president of the Central District Dental Society in 1960-1961 and was Dentist of the year in 1969. He was elected an Honorable Fellow of the Georgia Dental Association. He was a member of Temple Beth Israel, where he had served on the Board of Directors and a member of Idle Hour Country Club. He served as president of the Macon Federation of Jewish Charities and as president of Israel Bonds. He was a member of the Georgia Academy of Dental Practice and was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Dentists.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Shirley Kemper Roobin of Macon; Daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Mike Bashuk of Macon and Gayle and Mike Bullington of Americus; 7 Grandchildren; 1 Great-Grandchild; Sister, Lena Roobin Minkoff of Cordele.
In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to Temple Beth Israel, 892 Cherry Street, Macon, GA 31201 or to Hadassah, 4927 D Rivoli Drive, Macon, GA 31210.
