Nathan W. Pugh was born September 13, 1982, in Pensacola, Florida, to Ron and Marsha Pugh. He was a 2001 graduate of Walton High School. He graduated from Okaloosa-Walton Community College in 2003, with an Associate of Arts Degree. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with an English Degree from Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida, in 2005. While at Flagler, he volunteered at the Florida School for Deaf and Blind as part of Young Life Ministries.

Nathan was a member of Euchee Valley Presbyterian Church. He learned about Jesus from an early age and lived a life that demonstrated God's love. The fruits of the Spirit were evident in Nathan's life.

He is survived by his parents, Ron and Marsha Pugh, and his sister, Kristen Rhodes, and her husband, Lee. His nieces and nephews, Kaylyn, Gavin, and Eli Rhodes, were very special to Uncle Nate. He is also survived by numerous aunts and uncles, as well as a host of special cousins and friends. Betty Coleman, better known as "Meme", who provided loving care for Nathan during his pre-school years, also survives.

Nathan was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Chester Pugh and Leola Spann, his maternal grandparents, Fred and Irma Hall, and Mr. Ed Coleman, who gave so much love to Nathan.

Nathan loved the outdoors and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a lifetime member of John Grice's famed Bruce Creek Canoe Club.

Nathan attained the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He had an insatiable quest for learning. He loved people and had great compassion for those less fortunate. He was intrepid and loved to travel. He believed the best way to dispel ignorance was through learning about other peoples and cultures. He had a passion for linguistics and was an avid reader, writer, and photographer. His craft was teaching. He taught at Green Cove Springs Junior High School in Clay County, Florida, where he served as their chair of the English Department. In January 2010, he was selected by his peers as the Teacher of the Year representative. The awards program booklet stated that "sitting in Nathan's classroom is like witnessing an artist command clay to take shape and transform into a polished treasure."
