U.S. Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar, moved to Columbus, Indiana in 1825 and proceeded to practice law. He was a member of the Indian State House of Representatives, (1829-30, 44), served in the Indian State Senate, (1831-46) and prosecuting attorney of Bartholomew County, (1833-37). In 1837, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-fourth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of George L. Kinnard and reelected to the Twenty-fifth Congress, serving until 1839. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was clerk of the circuit court of Bartholomew County in 1853 and engaged in the practice of law until his death.
