Casualty of the Great War.
One of five casualties of the sinking of this ship buried in this churchyard.

His ship was a defensively-armed British Merchant ship built in 1901 as the S.S.Austriana but renamed in 1915. She was torpedoed without warning and sunk by German submarine U-86 when 4 miles West from Crammock Head, Mull of Galloway. The master and 19 crew perished.

On the Loyal Orange Association No. 12 and the Royal Black Preceptory No. 941 War Memorial in the Church Yard of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Trinity, Newfoundland there is listed Seaman Walter Mesh of Trinity, Royal Newfoundland Naval Reserve, drowned.
