Mrs. Simon Martus, who was born in Lewis county and lived near Constableville until her removal to Utica twenty-two years ago, died at her home in that city last Friday evening. Her maiden name was Mary Josephine Powell, and she was in the 63rd year of her age. Her husband died 11 years
ago. Mrs. Martua was well known and highly respected. She was a devout member of St. Mary's church and of the League of the Sacred Heart. Of thirteen children,, eleven survive. They are Mrs. Joseph Killian and Mrs. Fred Metzger, of Utica. Mrs. William Steinmeyer, of Oneida, Mrs. William Mueller, of Rochester; Simon, Rudolph, Anna, Helen, William, George and Josephine of Utica. Of grandchildren she leaves 28. She leaves also six brothers, John, Frank, Joseph and Jacob Powell, of Constableville; Thomas, of Carthage, and William, of Utica, and two sisters, Mrs. John Hallstab and Mrs. Thomas Doyle, of Utica.
