Nina Griffee,81,of 77 Griffee Road, died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at her home. Mrs. Griffee was born on Feb. 9, 1918 in Madison County. She lived most of her life in Madison and Buncombe County. She was the daughter of the late Lattie and Cassie G. Rice. She was preceeded in death by her brothers, William and Archie Rice, and her sister, Vertie "Bea" Norton. Surviving are her husband of 43 years, Lawrence Griffee; daughter and her husband, Ken and Margaret Vance of Asheville; five sons and their wives, W.R. Bill and Mary Lisenbee of Marshall, James "David" and Delores Lisenbee of Barnardsville, Joe and Joan Lisenbee of Mars Hill, Mark and Easter Griffee of Weaverville, Larry and Kathy Griffee of Weaverville; two sisters, Leta Thomas and Lula Tweed of Asheville; a brother, Alex Rice of Asheville; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Mrs. Griffee will be conducted on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Madison Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. George Massey and Manson Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the Rice Cove Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Madison Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mountain Area Hospice, 85 Zillicoa St., Asheville, N.C. 28801
