Son of Peter and Sarah (Snell) Bryant. Attended Williams College. He engaged teaching at Round Hill, near Boston before turning west. He arrived in Jacksonville, IL in 1830. Two years later he returned to MA and married Henrietta Plummer, May 10, 1832. They returned to Jacksonville that same year and moved to Bureau county in 1833; secured a claim on section 29, Princeton township, being the first settler in the township, two miles south of Princeton. Here Mr. Bryant resided until his death.

He engaged in the nursery business. He planted the roadside sugar maples in Princeton. In 1845 he secured apple trees and planted an orchard.

Feb 27 1837 Bureau County, IL can into existence, June of that year Arthur Bryant was elected a county commissioner, 1 of 3. Arthur Bryant was appointed in 1883 to direct the building of a bridge across Bureau Creek on the road from Princeton to French Creek, $100 was appropriated.
