Her father, Rev. Johannes Bonekemper was a pastor in Atmagea between 1849-1853. In the same place has been born Wilhelm / William' s sister Christine Caroline Bonekemper married Griess and his brother John Joseph Bonekemper.
Her father, Rev. Johannes Bonekemper was a famous preacher, a revivalist in Southern Russia, considered the father of "stundism", a Christian practice similar with Cell Churches or Home Churches nowadays. States they were born in Romania.

Mrs. Christine Caroline Griess, nee Bonekempter daughter of Rev. and Mrs. John Bonekemper, was born in the city of Atmadza in the province of Dobrudza, Turkey, (now Rumania) April 27, 1850. In 1873 she emigrated with her parents to America and came to Sutton, where she remained ever since.

On June 23, 1881 she united in holy wedlock with Mr. Peter M. Griess of Sutton, and to this union 7 children were born, of whom three died in early infancy.

Mr. Griess also preceded her into eternity April 20, 1926. She leaves to mourn her departure, her son Helmut Griess, and her three daughters, Hildegard, Elfriede and Eugenie Griess, and three grandchildren, also two brothers, the Rev. Wm. Bonekemper, who served the Sutton congregation 33 years, now living at Long Beach, Calif., and John J. Bonekemper at Los Angeles, Calif., and many other friends and relatives.

Mrs. Griess was ailing for over three years and in spite of constant medical help and loving care of her childre, she had to be most of the time bedfast.

However, she had a great longing to leave this world and well prepared to meet her Savior, she passed away, surrounded by her children on Tuesday night, Aug. 12 at 11:30 o'clock. She attained an age of 80 years, 3 months and 15 days.

The funeral service was held Friday, Aug. 15, first at the residence of the deceased at 1:30 and 2 o'clock at the First Reformed Church, Rev. Birk conducted the service in English and German, preaching from the text of the 71st Psalm and verses 20 to 24. The choir rendered appropriate hymns and a very large number of mourners filled the Church. Interment took place in the Sutton cemetery.
