Susan Ellen DeMott was born near Olean Feb. 4, 1854, was married to Peter DeMott in 1870. To this union was born 11 children; three infants and one grown son passed to the world beyond before her; seven children are still living: John DeMott of Altamont, Kansas, Mrs. Nan Boyer of Belvidere, Ill., Jim of near Tuscumbia, Mo., Mrs. Emma Weitz of Etterville, Elmer of Eldon, Armond of Kansas City, Kansas and Albert of Eldon, Iowa. She also leaves a husband, fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, five sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Morris of Eldon, Mrs. Dave Farmer of Marshall, Mo., Mrs. Nannie Smith and Mrs. Maggie Knox of Trinidad, Colo., Mrs. Kate Belshe of Downe, Calif. and one brother, John H. Morris of Fort Worth, Texas.
Mrs. DeMott died at her home near Pleasant Mount Saturday, April 13, 1918 at 8:30 a.m..
She was converted at the age of 16, at Mt. Herman and later transferred her membership to Mt. Pleasant where she was true to her profession until the death angel called her to her home beyond. She was a good, kind neighbor, a sweet self-sacrificing mother, a patient companion. Her everyday life made a record that her dear ones need never be ashamed of. Although a sufferer for many months, she was resigned to her struggle and hoped for the best.
