A graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point, in February 1899, Colonel Coleman had an interesting career, serving in Europe, on the staff of General John Joseph Pershing, in the Philippines and Brazil.

In 1902, he married Mary Louise "Mamie" Fletcher Coleman, who often accompanied him on his postings around the world. They divorced, probably about 1919, and he later remarried, to Catherine Augusta.

During the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, he was part of the Army team charged with dynamiting parts of the city in an attempt to stop the raging fires.

After his retirement from the Army on 31 Dec 1922, Le Vert was active in business and traveled and lived in Europe.
