Daughter of Roderick Shelton, Jr. and Rachel Moore.

Nancy married Drury Norton (1815-1854, son of David and Sarah Shelton Norton). After he died, she married George W. Franklin, Jr.

Stories have been written that "Nancy was a spy during the Civil War. September 1864, a band of Confederate soldiers came and surrounded her house, shot her husband George Franklin at the springhouse, shot two of her sons; a third son hid under the porch. The soldiers set the house on fire to force him out, then shot him too. They left with Nancy and her two daughters standing outside the burning house...." Nancy and daughter Delany went to Knoxville, TN where they cooked, sewed, and cared for Union wounded.
