Mr. Clark died of complications from cancer Friday at his Dallas home. He was 83.
In 1931, Mr. Clark founded John M. Clark Auto Co. and John M. Clark Investment Co., the car dealership's financing branch. His son John M. Clark Jr., of El Paso, said his father was one of the first used-car dealers in Dallas County to offer car financing. He also said Mr. Clark had the longest continuing car dealership in Dallas County.
Mr. Clark was a member of many organizations, including the Dallas Athletic Club, the Hella Shrine Temple and the First United Methodist Church of Dallas. His son said he was also a member of the Texas Game & Fish Club.
He is also survived by his wife, Claudine Bruton Clark of Dallas; two other sons, William B. Clark and Robert H. Clark, both of Dallas, and six grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Dallas.
