Funeral services for Joseph F. Miller Jr., were conducted Wednesday, June 24 at the Vase Funeral Chapel. The Rev. K.E. Gustafson of the Church of the Holy Communion and Frank Angeli of the Masonic Lodge A.F. and A.M. officiated.
Interment was in the Mountain View Cemetery.
The active pallbearers were William H. Miller, Richard E. Miller, Robert J. Miller, Bert Miller, Robert Flansburg and Charles Sorenson. The honorary pallbearers were Ray Black, George Zimmerman, Curtis Simkins, Jay Slagowski, Matt Bider, Thomas Engstrom, Eugene Lane and 13 great-grandchildren.
Miller Jr., 81, of 617 3rd Avenue West, Rock Springs, died at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, June 21, at his home.
A lifelong resident of Rock Springs, Miller had been in ill health the past one and a half years.
He was born in Rock Springs on July 19, 1905, the son of the late Joseph F. and Anne Reynolds Miller Sr. He attended schools in Rock Springs and Reliance and married the former Catherine Logan in Rock Spring son December 15, 1923.
Miller was a retired yardman, having worked for Ray Trucking and a retired coal miner, having worked for the U.P. Coal Company for 42 years.
Miller was a member of the Rock Springs Masonic Lodge A.F. and A.M., the Order of the Eastern Star and United Mine Workers of America.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine of Rock Springs; four grandsons, William H. Miller and Richard E. Miller, both of Rock Springs, Robert T. Miller of Denver and Bert Miller of Tremonton, Utah; four granddaughters, Mrs. Robert (Cathy) Flansburg of Rock Springs, Mrs. Jerry (Marae) Mignerey of Corpus Christi, Texas, Mrs. Charles (Becky) Sorenson of Downey, Idaho and Mrs. George (Linda) Zimmerman of Tremonton, Utah; one sister, Mrs. Bert (Lizzie) Bennett of American Fork, Utah; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Miller was preceded in death by four sons, Joseph, William, Robert and Jack Miller; one sister and two brothers.
