Mrs. U.L. Cushing, a resident of this community for forty years, passed to her reward last Friday morning. She entered the hospital last October and during the months of suffering remained ever cheerful and thoughtful of others. During the past month, one or more of her children had been with her almost constantly.
Grace Victoria Jackson was born near Hampton, Nebr., October 7th, 1878, and departed this life March 1, 1946, in the Stratton hosptial at the age of 67 years, 4 months and 22 days.
She was united in marriage to Ulysses L. Cushing Dec. 4, 1893. The first 11 years of their married life were spent near Edgar, Nebr.
In March 1904, they moved to a farm south of Stratton and she has lived in or near Stratton since, with the exception of 3 years in Dundy county. Her husband preceded her in death March 24, 1937.
She leaves to mourn her passing seven children: Ira of Ames, Iowa; Mrs. Frank Djureen of Denver, Mrs. Chas. Pierce, Harry, Floyd, Wayne and Mrs. Jesse Wilkinson, all of Stratton; 21 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lewis Falley of Topeka and Mrs. Flora Hardon of Gibbon, Neb.; one brother, Clyde Bicknell of Topeka, and many other relatives and friends.
At the age of 29 years, she confessed her faith in Christ and united with the Christian church.
Funeral services were held from the Community MethodistChurch Monday afternoon, Rev. Elmer Egle, assisted by Rev. H.W. Jackman, officiating, and the interment was made in Rose Hill Cemetery.
