Elda Anna Flora Blumhagen, the daughter of Henry F. and Anna (Schutte)
Blumhagen, was born December 31, 1916, in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek
County. She passed away Monday, December 29, 2003 in the Ossian Senior Hospice
at Ossian, Iowa. She had reached the age of 86 years, 11 months, and 28 days.
She was baptized into the Lutheran faith as an infant and confirmed in the Zion
Lutheran Church at Castalia, Iowa. Elda attended the Bloomfield School No. 10.
She studied to receive her GED certificate after working for several years.
Elda was employed at Monsky's General Store in Castalia, Wapsie Produce and
Brown's Electric in Decorah, and at the Scenic Ridge Telephone Company in Ossian
which was purchased by Ace Telephone Company, Houston, MN. Elda also worked on
the farm, raised strawberries, and took care of her brother, Henry.
She lived in Bloomfield Township all of her life and then became a resident of
the Ossian Senior Hospice on April 11, 2002.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 7 brothers, Carl, Louis, George, Arno,
Lloyd, Alvin, and Henry, and 3 sisters, Mabel Meyer, Elsie Meyer, and Minnie
Bugenhagen. Surviving is a sister-in-law, Agnes Blumhagen of Castalia, and many
nephews and nieces.
Elda was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia.
