He married Mabel Meyer on 19 Feb 1931 and they were the parents of Mardella, Loren, and Loretta.
After his death, Mable married Carl Schnitzler.

Geo. Blumhagen Passes At a Decorah Hospital

Funeral services will be held here Thursday afternoon at 1:30 from the Zion Lutheran church for Geo. Blumhagen, a young farmer residing about 1-1/2 miles northeast of Castalia, the Rev. Wm. Striepe officiating.

George Blumhagen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Blumhagen, was born on a farm near Castalia, August 8, 1902, and passed away at the Decorah hospital , Monday, February 3, 1936, following an operation for appendicitis.

He was baptized on November 14, 1902, in the Lutheran church at Postville by Rev. Bockelman. On August 26, 1907, he was confirmed in the Lutheran church at Castalia by Rev. Schmidt.

He made his home with his parents until February 19, 1931, when he was united in marriage with Miss Mabel Meyer of Castalia. Three children were born to this union, Mardella aged three years and Loren and Loretta aged four months.

He is survived by his wife and three children; his parents; six brothers, Carl of Ossian, Louie, Arno, Lloyd, Henry and Alvin, all living near Castalia; three sisters, Mrs. Wm Bugenhagen of Luana, Mrs. Harold Meyer of Castalia, and Elda living at home. One sister, Mabel, preceded him in death in 1929, and by numerous other relatives and many friends.

Mr. Blumhagen was a kind and loving husband, a good neighbor and kind friend, ever ready to help in time of need. He will be sadly missed from the community in which he lived.

Interment will be made in the Postville cemetery.

The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved wife and children and to all the sorrowing relatives.

At the time of his demise he was aged 33 years, five months and 25 days.
