Eureka, SD-Funeral service for Margaret Goehring, 98, of Eureka will be 1:30 pm, Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Eureka Baptist Church. The Rev. Gary Bergman will officiate.

Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Herreid, SD.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 am to noon at the funeral home.

She died October 30, 2010 at Avera Eureka Health Care Center.

Margaret Beck, daughter of Fred and Christina (Sauter) Beck was born March 7, 1912 at Herreid. She attended country school. Later, she was employed as a cook in a café in Java, SD. She then moved home to care for her parents and later went to work for her sister Katie and her husband until her marriage.

She was united in marriage to Benjamin "Bennie" Goehring on October 27, 1935 in Gnadenfeld Baptist Church, rural Mound City, SD. The first five years of their marriage, they lived with Bennie's parents, 12 miles southeast of Herreid. In 1940, they bought a farm eight miles southeast of Mound City where they resided until 1959 whey they moved to Herreid.

After moving to Herreid, Margaret continued to go out to the family farm with her husband to help him. She then began babysitting for various people. Later becoming employed at the Herreid Hospital as a housekeeper and continued in this position until the hospital closed in 1970. Her husband died April 6, 1981 and in March of 1982, she moved to Eureka.

Margaret enjoyed crocheting and quilting. She shared many of her doilies and quilts with family and friends. Cooking and entertaining brought her much joy and she continued even after her failing eyesight brought an end to her crocheting and quilting.

She was a member of Eureka Baptist Church and a past member of Herreid Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Harvey (Bernice) Goehring of Eureka, one daughter, Lila (Roger) Droog of Alton, Iowa, seven grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Her parents, husband, five brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Casketbearers will be Rick Droog of Orange City, IA, Tim Schlittenhardt of Wichita, KS, Newton Trowbridge of Grand Junction, CO, Marvin Beck of Pierre, Jon Snider of Andover, KS and SheriLynne Folger of Colorado Springs, CO.

The organist will be Esther Grosz, the soloist is Gwen Isaac and there will be a duet by Rev. Gary and Linda Bergman.
