After his military service ended in Arizona, the couple lived in Hilbert's hometown of Oxford, Butler County, Ohio, where they had three children--Hilbert Roland Rogers, Jr., born on October 26, 1930; Margaret Rogers, born in 1932; and John "Jack" Wimberley Rogers, born in 1933. Erma's husband Hilbert Rogers, Sr., died from an accident on November 30, 1938. Eight and a half years after Hilbert's death, 48-year-old Erma married for a third time.
