Erma Leona Wimberley was born on June 11, 1904, in Douglas, Cochise County, Arizona. Her parents were Pleasant Wimberley, Jr., and his second wife Leona May Hughes. Erma was the granddaughter of Pleasant Wimberley and Amanda Julian Jackson Wimberley of Wimberley, Texas, on her father's side. On her mother's side, she was the granddaughter of Robert Newton Hughes and his wife Amanda Elizabeth Johnson Hughes.

Both of her parents had had prior marriages, so Erma had half-siblings living to maturity on her father's side named Damon, Earl, and Esther Wimberley--all buried in Wimberley Cemetery Wimberley, Texas. On her mother's side, her half-siblings were Robert, Pearl, and Carl Moore (Pearl Ester Moore Stites was buried in Calvary Cemetery, Douglas, Arizona; Carl Bryan Moore was buried in the Los Angeles National Cemetery, Los Angeles, California; the location of Robert Moore's grave is unknown.) Erma's full siblings were Pleasant Wimberley III and Madia "Maidie" Belle Wimberley Grantham Linder. Both of these full siblings were buried in Calvary Cemetery in Douglas, Arizona, near their parents' graves.

Erma fell in love with and married three men during her lifetime. Her first marriage, at age 15, was to Fairchild William Adams (1889-1970) on August 9, 1919, in Douglas, Arizona. The couple soon moved to San Francisco County, California, where they had two children--Bessie L. Adams born on August 24, 1920, and William "Bill" Wright Adams born on February 23, 1924. After divorcing Fairchild and return to Arizona to live, Erma met Hilbert Roland Rogers (1902-1938) who was serving in the military at Fort Huachuyca, Arizona. Erma married Hilbert when she was approximately 25 years old. After his military service ended in Arizona, the couple lived in Hilbert's hometown of Oxford, Butler County, Ohio, where they had three children--Hilbert Roland Rogers, Jr., born on October 26, 1930; Margaret Rogers, born in 1932; and John "Jack" Wimberley Rogers, born in 1933. Erma's husband Hilbert Rogers, Sr., died from an accident on November 30, 1938. Eight and a half years after Hilbert's death, 48-year-old Erma married for a third time. Her third husband was Samuel "Sam" Shera Paxton (1903-1969) whom she married on July 23, 1947, in Oxford, Ohio.

Erma died just before her 95th birthday on May 31, 1999, in College Corner, Butler County, Ohio. She had been a widow for the last 30 years of her life with Sam's death in 1969. Erma was buried in the Oxford Cemetery, Oxford, Butler County, Ohio. She was buried as Erma Rogers "Mother."
