Charles "Chuck" Roberts Jr., 91, of West, Texas, passed away quietly Monday evening, June 13, 2011, at his residence with wife Dorothy and son Glen at his side.

Military graveside services were held 9:45 a.m. Thursday, June 16, 2011, at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas. The family received visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2011, at Aderhold Funeral Home in West, Texas. A memorial service was held Saturday, June 18, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Quail Run building, in Flower Mound, Texas.

Chuck was born March 11, 1920, in San Bernardino, Calif., the son of Charles Junior Roberts and Leona (Brundege) Roberts. He moved to Arizona at an early age and spent most of his life there. Chuck attended school in San Bernardino and Phoenix, Ariz.
He served his country in the United States Army during WWII serving in special services on Saipan. He married Joyce Elna LeSueur in 1946 while managing a theatre in Barstow, California (Joyce worked for him). Together they had three children: Gary C. Roberts, Glen O. Roberts, and Joan L. Roberts (now Cole) and spent a large part of that marriage of 18 years in Superior, AZ.
After the marriage ended, Chuck moved with the children to Prescott, AZ. He later met Dorothy Belle Windham Jenkins (a widow) while they both worked at the Prescott Evening Courier. On Sept. 17, 1966 they married, and Chuck became Dad to her five children as well (only the youngest, John and Evelyn, were still in the home). Dorothy remained his faithful companion for the rest of his life.

Chuck managed movie theatres for Long Enterprises in Superior, Ariz., and Wehrenberg Theatres in Prescott, Ariz. He also managed newspaper operations at the Prescott Courier for a number of years. During that time he was the photographer there and also helped ran the presses. Chuck and Dot together later worked on other smaller newspapers. Notably, they founded and published the Prescott Valley Progress. At various times they also owned and ran theatres in Colorado City, TX and Seminole, TX. He enjoyed photography, fishing, camping and electronics, but always his focus was on family.

He was a loyal and loving husband, father and grandfather. Chuck was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was also a member of the Lions Club and Historical Society in Superior, Ariz.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, a beloved stepson, John Jenkins, and both sisters: Prebble Bernice Walter Owen, and Mary LaRue Walter (who died before he was born). Both sisters were from his mother's marriage to her first husband, Oakley Walter.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Dorothy Roberts of West; sons Gary Roberts (and wife Jane) of Mesa, Ariz., and Glen Roberts (and wife Susan) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one daughter, Joan Cole (and husband Gary) of Flower Mound, TX; two stepsons, Brad Jenkins of Prescott and David Jenkins (and wife Cindy Wren) of Flagstaff, Ariz.; three stepdaughters, Emily Jenkins (and husband Jim Mathews) of Sun City, Ariz., Evelyn Rankin (and husband Steve) of West, and Calette Ihrman (and husband Ted), widow of beloved stepson John, of Chino Valley, Ariz.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren (about 18 great grands at time of death); and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Glen Roberts, Gary Cole, Michael Cole, Steve Rankin, Jason Reed, and Collin Roueche. Honorary pallbearers were: Gary Roberts, Brad Jenkins, David Jenkins, and John Jenkins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to Texas Home Health Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
