Mitchell Alan "Mick" Newton, 59, unexpectedly went to be with his Lord and Savior after a brief illness on June 15, 2011, at Gaston Memorial Hospital. He was born February 25, 1952 in Gaston Co., to Mell Newton of Bessemer City and the late George D. Newton.

Mick touched the lives of many with his good nature and good humor. He was a man to be counted on when in need. He graduated from ASU in 1982 and continued living in Boone for years before returning to his hometown of Bessemer City. He was a broker, builder, realtor and was working in auto sales at the time of his death. Mick grew through the years with Boy Scouts, paper routes and through his love of music. He was a Christian man who loved and cherished his Bible. He was a devoted father, son, brother, grandfather and friend, and he will be missed by all.

In addition to his mother he is survived by his daughter, Michelle Smith and husband Alan of Shelby; his son, Matthew Newton of Bessemer City; grandchildren, Grace, Phoebe and Charlotte Smith; his sister, Kimberly Yow of Arden; his brother, Barry Newton of Martinez, Ga.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Saturday at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home Chapel, Bessemer City, with Rev. Scott Keith officiating.

Visitation will be 1:00 – 3:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Bessemer City Memorial Cemetery.
