Eugene Phillips, born Louisiana (one source shows born Mobile, Alabama, about 1846, and another source states that he was a native of Washington, D.C.); son of Philip and Eugenia L. Phillips; original entry into Confederate States Navy, as midshipman, March 19, 1863; served on the Mobile Squadron, 1863-1864; resided as a dry goods clerk, in 1880, at New Orleans; shown, in 1892, as a member of the Army of Tennessee Association of Confederate Veterans, of New Orleans, Louisiana; died at the residence of his brother, John W. Phillips, New Orleans, Thursday, December 10, 1891; interred in the tomb of the Association of the Army of Tennessee, Louisiana Division, Camp No. 2, United Confederate Veterans.
