Wanda was born Wanda Muszynski in Hamtramck, Michigan, and moved to Dearborn at young age. She spent most of her school years at Maple School in Dearborn, Michigan and attended Fordson High School, graduating in 1939. She attended the University of Detroit, where she met her husband, Henry Frank Kopicko. They were married in 1941 and settled in Dearborn.
Wanda earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the Univ. of Detroit, and worked in the chemicals industry for a couple of years before leaving to raise a family. She spent the post-war years raising her family and caring for an ailing mother. She attended Eastern Michigan University to earn her teaching credentials, and returned to working as an elementary school teacher.
She lived her entire life in the Detroit Area. She suffered a devastating stroke shortly after her husband died, from which she made a remarkable recovery, but unfortunately was never able to move back home.
