Dr. Kopicko was born in Detroit and attended St. Andrew Catholic Elementary School, Chadsey High School, and the University of Detroit, where he graduated from Dental School. He served in the Army Air Corps as a staff dentist during World War II, from 1943-46. He spent his career in private dental practice in Detroit. He called the Detroit area "home" for his entire life. He married Wanda Muszynski in 1941, with whom he had four children: Dolores (Cwik), Loretta (Potoczak), Henry, and Elaine (Micallef).
His avocation was his family. At the time of his death he had 5 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
