Roger W. Kickertz, 85, of Calumet died Thursday, April 8, 1999, in Itasca Medical Center, Grand Rapids. He was born March 16, 1914, in Marion, N.D., the son of Eugene and Emma Kickertz. He attended rural North Dakota schools and had been a resident of Marble before moving to Calumet in 1947. He married Janet Baldwin Sept. 7, 1940, in Marble. He had been a mechanic and truck driver for Cleveland Cliffs Mining Co., retiring in 1976. He was an Army Veteran of World War II serving in the European, African and Middle Eastern theaters.
Survivors include his wife, Janet; daughters, Jeanette (Wesley) Wellcome of Marble, and Patty Kickertz of Calumet; six grandchildren; a sister, Ruth (Bert) Hemm of West Fargo, N.D.; brothers Ervin (Oriette) Kickertz of Fargo and Fred (Erma) Kickertz of Glenwood, Minn. His parents, Eugene and Emma Kickertz, and brothers Alfred and Vern preceded him in death.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Sunday with parish prayers at 7 in Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine. Mass of Christian burial 11 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Marble. The Rev. Fr. Paul J. Larson is Celebrant. Interment in the Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine.
