Mary Jane Bilbo was the daughter of John Bilbo and his wife Jane Anne Stevenson who were both deceased by 1854. Mary Jane and another sister were given into custody of James Dyer, who had married their sister Sarah Ann Bilbo. James Dyer was an uncle by marriage. He was the widower of their mother's sister: Mary 'Polly' Stevenson.

The Bilbo daughters inherited land in the Parish of Calcasieu, State of LA on Lake Charles was sold. Court documents Claiborne Parish, LA. James Dyer and older sister Sarah (Bilbo) Dyer left LA and moved into Texas. Apparently Sarah (Bilbo) Dyer's younger sister Mary Jane Bilbo accompanied them to Texas, as she married James Thomas Heath, the son of Richard Blue Heath and Sarah Elizabeth (Jordan) Heath. (The other sister Mary 'Polly' Bilbo stayed in LA where she married Moses Stephen Goodson and died.)
