"W.H. spurlock Dies
The death at Berlington, Iowa., of Walter H. Spurlock, who lived here between 1900 and 1925, was reported here Monday. He was the brother of Mrs. I. H. Drennon and Mrs. N. E. Schofield of Denver and uncle of Lawrence Kern of Fort Collins.
Mr. Spurlock, 87, came here from Council Bluffs, Iowa, in 1900 and farmed in this area for 25 years. He revisited this city last May and June. He was born in Iowa Jan 10, 1880.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gladys Spurlock; the three sisters; two brothers, Adrian Spurlock of National City, Calif. and Guy Spurlock of Glendale, Calif.; and three daughters, Mrs. Hugh Gibson and Mrs. Frank Yeager of Glendale and Mrs. Leo C. Davis of Sacramento, Calif. There are 14 grandchildren and several nephews and nieces."

Walter Herschel Spurlock was the son of John William and Eliza Jane Johnson Spurlock. He was born on 10 Jan 1880 in Des Moines Co., Iowa. Walter was the eldest of 8 children.
His family moved to Schuyler Nebraska while Walter was a young man. They later settled in LaPorte. Colorado. Walter farmed from in the area for 25 years before moving to California. He married Mary J. "Mamie" Sherlock daughter of Joseph H. Sherlock and Anna Keefe on 4 Sep 1900 in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa. They had 4 children, Anna Marie, Eva Loretta, Gertrude Alice and Marjorie Elizabeth.
Anna Marie was killed in a car train accident in Hastings NE in 1922; Eva married Hugh Gibson and had 2 sons (Lawrence and Thomas); Gurtrude married "Bill" Worlie and had 2 children, then married Leo Davis with whom she had 2 more children. Marjorie married Frank Yeager and had 11 children (2 sets of twins).
A note from Walter to his sister told of his marriage later in life to a wonderful lady with whom he was very happy. The card was signed from Gladys and Walter...and dated 1944.
Walter died on 13 Jan 1957 in Glendale, Los Angeles Co., Ca.
