Laura and Harrison married while he was no doubt doing esponage work for the CSA in Washington and the north.

In 1865 he took his family to Mexico, but by then there were marital issues. He basically deserted his wife and young daughters there and set out on his own. Later in life he did contact one of the daughters, Mary Irene (Harrison) Beattie who married #1 John H. Riggs and #2 James Robert Beattie. but the family did not welcome him with open arms. His other daughter was Elizabeth (Bessie), who married Benjamin Franklin Kagay, Jr.

After a number of years Laura figured out that he was dead and she married #2 George Washington Riston on 27 August 1873.

Laura would have four children with Riston.
