She married first, John H. Riggs and second, James Robert Beattie. She was the daughter if Henry Thomas Harrison and Laura Broders. They were married in Washington, D.C., where her father was probably doing his investigation work for the Confederate States Army. Her father was the actor and Confederate spy who gave information about Union forces to General James Longstreet and General Robert E. Lee just prior to the start of the Battle of Gettysburg. In 1865 he took his wife and daughter to Mexico, where, soon after, due to marital problems he just took off, leaving them. A number of years later he made the attempt to reconnect with Mary Irene, but was more or less rebuffed by the family. She was the sister of Elizabeth "Bessie" Harrison, who married Benjamin Franklin Kagay, Jr. (Notes contributed by member, Charlott Jones).

"They were married in Washington, D.C., where her father was probably doing his investigation work for the Confederate States Army". Mary was born in 1866, one year after the end of the Civil War. Her father was no longer a spy, and the last work he did for the Confederates was when he was living in New York City. Mary MAY have been born in Mexico. From her father's bio: "When the Civil War ended he took his family to Mexico but marital difficulties led him to leave Mexico in 1866 and travel to the Montana Territory to prospect for gold".
