He was married 1st on 23 Jun 1861 at Belgrade, Kennebec County, Maine to Sarah Amanda Bickford.

They had 2 daughters: Lydia Frances "Fannie" Tibbetts, married George Greenleaf Kaherl; and Annie May Tibbetts, married Frank B. Howard.

He was married 2nd on 4 Jul 1873, at Belgrade, Kennebec County, Maine to Abbie F. Allen, widow of Frank Bumpas and Henry Leeman Collins.

They had a daughter: Inez E. Tibbetts, married John Tibbetts, Jr.
