Another sturdy pioneer, and one of the county's first settlers has been called from labor to reward. August Frederick Ziegelmann died at the home of his son, Fred, in Great Bend, on Monday, April 14th, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 14 days. Deceased was taken ill with pneumonia about two weeks prior to his death and before this attack seemed to be in good robust health.
August Frederick Ferdinand Ziegelmann was born in Germany on April 21st, 1848. He was united in marriage to Bertha Brandt, on January 18th, 1872, and shortly after their marriage came to America, first settling in the state of Wisconsin where they resided about seven years, and from there came to Richland County and settled on a homestead in Brandenburg township. The reward of their industry and frugality was a competence that insured their every want, and in 1920 they moved to the village of Great Bend to enjoy the fruits of their labors. Since the death of his wife, which occurred a year ago last January, deceased made his home with his son Fred.
Deceased is survived by six sons and five daughters, Frank and Herman Ziegelmann of Garfield, MN.; Fred, August, Adolph and Otto Ziegelmann of Great Bend; Mrs. Hingst and Mrs. Krueger of Tyler, Mrs. Martin of Seattle, WA; Mrs. Passenheim of Huron, SD.; and Mrs. Muehler of Hankinson. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. John Worner of Wheaton, MN.; and two brothers Frank Ziegelmann of Great Bend and William Ziegelmann of Hankinson.
Funeral services were held in Great Bend on Wednesday at the home of Fred Ziegelmann Jr., Rev. T. Hinck officiating.
The pall bearers were Chas. Tritten, Henry Koppelman, Carl Pasbrig, Frank Knuppel, Theo Bohn and Henry Bohn. Interment was made in the St. Johns Lutheran Church Cemetery.
