Georgia C. Tryfon 1912 ~ 2008

Georgia Tryfon was born July 9, 1912, in Lapanagous, Greece and lived in Aigion, Greece. After her mother died when she was three months old, she was raised by her grandmother. She immigrated to the United States as a young woman to join her father in Salt Lake City. She met and married Chris G. Tryfon, who preceded her in death in 1977. Our beloved Mother and Yiayia passed away peacefully in her sleep at her daughter's home in Palos Verdes Estates, California.
An active member of the Greek Orthodox Church, she was deeply religious and volunteered many hours for the church. She was President of the Mother's Club (Philoptochos) and was very proud of her work raising funds for the Holy Trinity War Memorial Building. In addition, she held many active positions in the Panahaikos Society, the Arcadian Society, and AHEPA/Daughters of Penelope. Georgia had many interests and talents. She loved to entertain and was a wonderful cook of both Greek and American dishes. She was especially known for her galatopita and her fried chicken. She was privileged to host Archbishop Athenagoras at her home. She excelled at needlepoint and making handmade lace, and won many blue ribbons at the Utah State Fair for her handiwork. Georgia was an excellent gardener who took great pride in the wide variety of plants she grew.
She is survived by her loving family: children, George (Pam) Tryfon and Tessie (Charles) Menechios; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive on Friday, June 6 from 6-8 p.m. with a Trisaigion at 7:30. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 7 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 279 South 300 West, Salt Lake City, Utah 84101. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Holy Trinity Cathedral.
