Janet Florence Franklin, 81, of Fifth Street, Waverly, Ohio died Friday, June 10, 2011 at her home.

She was born April 8, 1930 in Scranton, PA to the late Robert H. Stark and Marian (Taylor) Stark. On June 7, 1950 Janet was united in marriage to Jay C. Franklin who preceded her in death on April 10, 2003.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law of Lexington, SC; son and of Clover, SC; three granddaughters; a grandson; two great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter.

Janet was a graduate of McDermott High School and Miami University with a Bachelors Degree in Secretarial Science. She attended Rio Grande College, Ohio University Branch and Shawnee State University for Educational Certification. She retired in 1990 after 26 years in the Educational Field. She was employed as secretary to Superintendent of Scioto County Schools for 2 years, secretary for the Goodyear Atomic Corporation for 7 years, commercial teacher and Teacher/ Advisor for Office Education Association Student Program for Waverly High School for 16 years and Teacher/Advisor for Computer/Account Management Program and Business Professionals of America Student Organization (formerly Office Education Association) for the Vern Riffe Joint Vocational Schools for 10 years.

She served as member of OEA/Business Professional Region 2 Executive Board for 10 years, 3 of which were served as Region 2 Advisor, member of OEA/Business Professional State Executive Board for 4 years, former member of Ohio Education Association (Teachers), National Education Association, and Waverly Classroom Teachers as the office of Treasurer; Ohio Vocational Association, National Vocational Association, Southeastern Business Teachers, Ohio Business Teacher Association, Pike County Retired Teachers Association and life member of Ohio Retired Teachers Association.

Janet was a member of Delta Zeta (formerly Delta Sigma Epsilon) College Sorority, Sigma Phi Gamma International Sorority, Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Honorary Sorority. She served on the Pike County Swim Club Executive Board, helped with Heart Fund, Cancer and Muscular Dystrophy drives. Also served on the Community Concert Board, Pike County Scholarship Committee, Pike County Board for Cancer Society from 1991-1996 as secretary and secretary on the Pike Community Hospital Volunteer Board. For over 50 years, she enjoyed friendships of the Monday Night Bridge Club. Janet was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and Chancel Choir, Waverly, Ohio

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly with Rev. Dan Evory officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Boyer Funeral Home 5-7 p.m. Monday and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday.

Memorial contributions may be to the Pike Community Hospital Foundation or the Grace United Methodist Church.
