JOHN FARRAR (JEFFERSON 9, JOHN 8, GEORGE FARRAR 7 SR., WILLIAM 6 FARRARIII, MAJOR, WILLIAM 5,
WILLIAM 4, JOHN 3, WILLIAM 2, HENRY 1) was born 1815, and died 1848 in Travis County, Texas. He married MIRIAM BLAIR October 06, 1832 in Bedford County, Tennessee, daughter of THOMAS BLAIR and ELEANOR DOAK. She was born 1808 in Guilford County, North Carolina, and died September 1847 in Texas.
John Farrar died in Travis County, Texas in 1848. His three children were placed under the guardianship of Lewis Henry Dillard in Cherokee County, Texas at September term of Probate Court 1848 (Book A. Page 29). Samuel Farrar became the guardian for his brother's three children on March 27, 1854.
During the Mexican War, John Farrar served in Captain Samuel Highsmith's Company D which was composed of 46 personnel recruited primarily at Austin, Texas. They were mustered into federal service on May 10, 1847 and mustered out of federal service on May 14, 1848. He received a certificate (#2070) for forty acres of land for services in Captain Highsmith's command on June 20, 1848. He also received another certificate (#18933) for one hundred sixty acres on June 29, 1848. He apparently died sometime between June and September of 1848. Lewis Henry Dillard became the guardian for the three children because apparently Mariam (Blair) Farrar was deceased before September 1848. Mariam's sister, Cynthia, was the wife of Lewis Henry Dillard.

Recorded as a bill of sale in Ellis County, Texas on April 5, 1857. During the Civil War, he was in Company F of the 9th Texas Infantry. He enlisted at Camp Rusk in Lamar County on October 12, 1861. He was left sick in the Memphis, Tennessee hospital on February 12, 1861 and died there of congestion on April 21, 1862.

John Abner Farrar enlisted in Company H of the 12th Texas Cavalry on October 28, 1861at Camp Hebert near Hempstead, Texas. He was discharged at Camp Parsons on February 19, 1862 on Surgeons Certificate of Disability. According to the certificate, he was discharged because of Pulmonary Disease and general infirm health. He was described as being five feet, four inches tall. He had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and light hair. According to his Confederate Pension which was approved on November 27, 1922, he later joined Company A of the 15th Texas Infantry under the command of General Sowell.
