CORRECTION
In yesterday's obituary of Elder W. H. "Hibbard" Thacker, 93, of Canada, Ky., it was incorrectly stated that one of his daughters name was Mrs. Ona Wallace of Pikeville, Ky. It should have Ona Worrix of Pikeville.

Elder W. H. Hibbard Thacker
Moderator Mates Creek Association
1931 - 1966

Elder W. H. Hibbard Thacker departed this life Tuesday, March 21, 1978, 10:10 P.M. at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.
He was born December 7, 1884, making his stay on earth 93 years, three months, and 14 days. He was the son of the late Greenville and Lydia Conway Thacker.
His first marriage was to Maggie B. Blackburn Thacker and to this union were born nine children: four sons, three of whom preceded him in death: Homer, Estil and Arlen. He is survived by one son, Raymond Thacker of South Lebanon, Ohio; five daughters: one preceded him in death named Sarilda. Four survive: Mrs. Oney Worrix, Burning Fork, Pikeville; Mrs. Rebecca Stanley, Mrs. Zettie Thornsbury and Mrs. Verda Smith, all of Canada, Pike County, Ky.
His second marriage was to Virginia May. To this union were no children. His third marriage was to Mary Stanley Bird who survives his passing and to this union there were no children.
He also leaves 27 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.
He was a faithful member and servant of the Old Primitive Baptist Church for 67 years. He united with the Louisa Primitive Baptist Church the second Sunday in October 1911. He served faithfully as their moderator from 1957 until his passing; served as moderator of the Mates Creek Association from 1935 until 1966, a total of 31 years. Books could be written of things he said and did. We believe he demonstrated his love and fellowship among Old Baptists.
We trust we shall never forget his sayings which does become sound doctrine: "You take a whole lot you don't like to get, a little you do like." "It's just as it 'tis— it's signed and sealed." We feel surely he is one that it can be said as it was by the Apostle Paul, "He has finished his course, he has kept the faith, he fought a good fight," which should be an inspiration to all he has left behind.

Far from affliction, toil and care, the happy soul is fled.
The breathless clay shall slumber here, among the silent dead.
The gospel was his joy and song, even to his latest breath,
The truth he had proclaimed so long was his support in death.
Now he resides where Jesus is, above this dusty sphere,
His soul was ripened for that bliss, while yet he sojourned here.
The church's loss we all deplore, and shed the falling tear,
Since we shall see his face no more, till Jesus shall appear.
But we are hastening to the tomb, Oh! May He bless to stand,
Then, Dearest Lord, receive us home, to dwell at thy right hand.
