URBANA – Darlene Hays, 73, of Urbana passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

She was born March 6, 1938, in Foosland, a daughter of William and Nellie (Earnest) Sommer. She married Eugene Hays in 1957.

She is survived by two sons, Michael (Tammy) Hays of Tolono and Daniel Hays of Hopatcong, N.J.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Sommer of Auburn, Wash.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, a sister and a great-grandson, Bryce Torres.

Darlene graduated from Urbana High School in 1956. She retired from Kraft Foods as a fork truck driver. She enjoyed Cubs baseball, puzzles and her grandchildren.

A graveside service for the burial of ashes will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 16, at the East Bend Cemetery, rural Dewey. Lux Memorial Chapel, Rantoul, is handling all arrangements.
