Nelson Behymer Answers Final Roll Call at State Home.
Funeral services for Nelson Behymer, who died at the state soldiers' home in Lafayette, at 1:45 o'clock Monday afternoon, will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at the First M.E. church by the pastor, Rev. M.C. Wright, and the burial will be in the city cemetery. The body was brought to the Copher & Fesler chapel Monday evening where it will remain until time for the funeral.
Mr. Behymer was born in Clermont county, Ohio, and was one of a family of five children. He located on a farm two miles east of Elwood twenty-six years ago and has been an esteemed resident of this community ever since.
Last January he suffered an attack of pneumonia and was taken to the Methodist hospital at Indianapolis. When he recovered from the attack he was removed March 1 to the soldiers' home at Lafayette, remaining there until he made response to the final roll call.
He is survived by two children, W.E. Behymer of Kokomo, and Mrs. D.E. Drake of Indianapolis.
Mr. Behymer enlisted in the 37th Ohio cavalry in the war of the rebellion and was in the service of his country until invalided out in the latter part of 1864. He was a member of the Elwood post of the G.A.R.
There was no beter liked citizen of Elwood than this quiet, unassuing man, and many friends sincerely regret to learn of his death. (Elwood Call Leader, September 16, 1924)
