Born in Sogeritz, Stolph Dist, Pomeran, the son of Johann Friedrich Ernst Vögt & Wilhelmina F. Charlotte Manske, Teodor immigrated to Illinois with his parents.

On the voyage over, he injured his back severely when something heavy fell on him on the ship. He lived the rest of his life hunched and in great pain. He was a farmer in Aroma Township of Kankakee Co.

On 13 Mar 1877 he married Mary Dorothea Kukuck in a double ring ceremony with her sister and his brother. Mary and Theodor had 8 children. Dorthea died after the birth of the eighth.

He married Wilhelmina Radisky on Sep. 9, 1895. She acted as mother to his six surviving children. [A daughter, Alice, had died as an infant.]

The last born child, Edwin, was fostered to M. Dorothea's step-sister, Sophia Brand Zahn, in Roberts, IL. Although the Voigts made several attempts to return Edwin to the family, both Sophia and Edwin were so strongly opposed, although he visited his father's family regularly, that the boy remained in the Zahn home until sophomore year of high school.
