Cecil Edward Watson, 90, a native of Tuscumbia and a resident of Florence, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011, at ECM Hospital. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church.
Visitation will be 3-4 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011, at Greenview Funeral Home, with the funeral service beginning at 4 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Chris Underwood. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Park.
Cecil was born in Tuscumbia and resided in Florence for a number of years. He was a longtime member of Highland Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Senior Men's Sunday School Class III. Cecil retired from Sherwin Williams after 35 years of loyal service. He enjoyed spending time with his relatives and especially enjoyed playing Rook with them. Cecil at the age of 90 and his brother, Wesley at 97, continued to play Rook, and Wesley and Cecil continued to beat their sons. Cecil loved the outdoors and was a hunter and fisherman and also was a bowler. He also was adept at finding ginseng root in the woods.
Cecil was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Harrison Watson; brothers, Wesley and Wallace Watson; sisters, Ercie Stanfield, Effie Kirchner, Flossie Stanfield, Artie McKelvey, Flora Inman and Annie Mae Watson.
He is survived by his son, Danny Watson and wife, Ann; daughters, Patsy Watson Horn and husband, Jack, Teresa Watson Rasch and husband, Chip; grandchildren, Cindy George (Jon), Nikki Hoskinson (Kevin), Emily Ladner (Ben), Ashley Rasch Anderson (Louis), Christopher Watson (Stephanie), Jon Horn (Martha) and Andrew Rasch; great-grandchildren, Haven and Raleigh George, Aidan and Patrick Hoskinson.
Pallbearers will be Chip Rasch, Jack Horn, Fay Watson, Christopher Watson, Andrew Rasch and Billy Harrison.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Inman and members of the Senior Men's Sunday School Class III.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Highland Baptist Church Building Fund.
