Obituary found in the Mattoon Gazette, Mattoon, Coles, Illinois August 9, 1889:
Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Yocum, died at her home in Gays, Moultrie County, Ill, August 4, aged 39 years. Sis Yocum had been afflicted for some time with that dread disease consumption. She bore her affliction with patience, believing that God doeth all things for the best.
She was a member of the M.E. Church at Gays.
She leaves a husband, four children and one brother to mourn her departure.
Six children, father, mother, brother and sister have preceded her across the river. The bereaved and afflicted family has the sympathy of the entire community.
Her funeral was preached at Zion Hill M.E. church, August 5, by her pastor, T.H. Fierce.
