Lon Durrence,76,last of a large family that had much to do with the development of this section, died at his home near Mendes last Thursday after an illness of several months.
He is survived by his wife; five sons, Linton Durrence, of Riceboro; Lee, Lannie, Willie and Carl Durrence, all of Glennville, and a daughter, Mrs. P.B. Bacon of Glennville.
Funeral services were conducted at Beard's Creek Primitive Baptist Church Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock by Rev. W.B. Screws.
Jack Rimes, mortician, was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Durrence was buried in the churchside by the side f six wives who preceded him in death.
The surviving wife is his seventh.
