SAM WULFJEN, COLORADO CITY RANCHER, DIES
COLORADO CITY (RNS) ~~ Sam Wulfjen, 63, one of the best known and best loved Mitchell County ranchers died at his home in Colorado City about 6:30 Saturday evening.
Wulfjen had been in poor health since summer. His condition had been critical since Wednesday of this week.
The Wulfjen family are pioneer ranchers and orginally moved here in 1884. Sam Wulfjen was born here February 18, 1886.
Best known for his western sense of humor, he always served as auctioneer for the boys Livestock Show of which he was an orginal sponsor. He was a former sponsor of the Frontier Roundup and Rodeo Association and at the time of his death he was a director and vice president.
He was active in the Methodist Church and had been a member of the board of stewards many years. Recently he was named honary lifetime steward.
Mr. Wulfjen was a member of the Masonic Lodge and active in the Chamber of Commerce.
He had extensive ranching interests in the county.
He was married to the former Myrtle Henson in Quanah in 1910, who survives. Also surviving is one son, Robert Wulfjen, of Dallas; a granddaughter; his mother, Mrs. J.D. Wuljen, of Colorado City, who celebrated her 95th. birthday last week; one brother, Bert Wulfjen, of Colorado City; and two sisters, Mrs. Everett Winn, of Colorado City and Mrs. S. H. Wallis of Tuscon, Arizona.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete Saturday, but were tentatively set for Monday morning in the Methodist church here, with the pastor, J. E. Shewbert, officiating. Burial will be in the local cemetery under the direction of Kiker and Son Funeral Home.
An older brother, Urda Wulfjen, died last year.
