Helen Arnola Dewater Ponte, 80, of 4249 Lafayette Road, died Saturday, Feb. 25, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa, of natural causes.
She was born April 15, 1914, in Clearwater, Kan., daughter of Phillip Ola and Clara Etta Adams Dewater. She married Forrest Eugene Alcott in 1931 in Iowa. He died in 1949. She married Chauncey "Pete" Ponte in 1955 in Minnesota. He died in 1982. Survived by: two sons, Lawrence Alcott of Waterloo and Forrest E. Alcott of Evansdale; two daughters, Marion Wheeler and Linda Baugh, both of Waterloo; 15 grandchildren, 32 greatgrandchildren and a great-greatgrandchild; a brother, Russell Dewater of California; and four sisters, Rhea Brawner of Kansas, Dolly Anthony of Colorado, Marlys Hovey of Cresco and Etta Nadine Liebert of Evansdale.
Preceded in death by: five sisters and three brothers.
Services: will 2 p.m. Tuesday at Parrott & Wood Funeral Home, Waterloo, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the family present from 3 to 6 p.m. Memorials: may be directed to the family.
