He was the s/o James H. and Mary (Polly) McKern Hammons and their youngest child. One of 11 children, he married 1st to Mary F. Stanturf, d/o Aaron B. and Sarah Jane Barnes Stanturf. No children are known by me to have been born of this marriage. She died in 1887 and is buried in the Barnes Cemetery near Half Rock, Mercer Co., MO.
On August 8, 1893, Abraham married, Effie May McKern, the d/o Abram Harvey McKern and Mary Ellen Gilbert in Leon, Decatur Co., IA. He and Effie were the parents of three children; Mary Ellen, Lulu Edna and Ralph. Only Mary Ellen survived childhood.
