Mrs. Eugenia Merle Adams was the widow of the late George P. Adams. Her grandparents were Martina and Ygnacio Martinez, after whom the town of Martinez takes its name. Her mother was Susana Martinez and her father was Benoit Vasscro Merle. She had no children

ADAMS - In Oakland, July 26, 1931, Eugenia Merle, beloved wife of the late George P. Adams, loving sister of Martina Miles, Susie Gorden, Madeline Crow and Peter S. Merle; a native of Martinez, California.
Friends are respectfully Invited to attend the funeral Tuesday, July 28, at 8:30 a. m. from the Oakland parlors of Freeman& Cox-Roach & Kenney, 2030 Telegraph Avenue, thence to St, Francis de Sales church, where a requiem mass will be celebrated for the repose of her soul, commencing at 9 a. m. Interment, Martinez, California.

NEWMAN, Aug. 7. - The death is death is announced in San Francisco of Mrs. Eugenia Merle Adams, a sister of Mrs. Madeline Crow, a former Newman resident now living In Oakland, and of Mrs. Martina Miles of Gustine, Mrs. Susanna Gordon of San Francisco and P. S. Merle of Oakland, Mrs. Merle Yancey of Newman is a niece.
The deceased was a member of one of the best known old Spanish families. She was a granddaughter of Ygnacio and Martina Martinez, for whom the city of Martinez was named. Interment was in the family plot at Martinez.

PASSING OF MEMBER OF OLD SPANISH FAMILY
The death is announced at San Francisco of Mrs. Eugenia Merle Adams, a sister of Mrs. Madeline Crow, now of Oakland but a former Newman resident; Mrs. Martina Miles of Gustine, Mrs. Susan Goodon of San Francisco, and P. S. Merle of Oakland.
Mrs. Adams was a descendant of a well-known Spanish family, being the granddaughter of Ygnacio and Martina Matinez, after who the town of Martinez was names. Don Ignacio being the Commandante of the Presidio at Yebra Buena from 1817 to 1829, and later Alcalde of that city.
The deceased was a native of Martinez but after her marriage lived in San Francisco. The funeral was held at St. Francis de Dalco Chruch in Oakland, with interment in the family plot at Martinez.

LIFE OF PIONEER WOMAN RELATED
Details of the life of Mrs. Eugenia Merle Adams, scion of the founder of Martinez are supplied by Mrs. Anna T. Burns of Oakland in a letter she has written to Mrs. W. B. Bartlett, pioneer resident of this city. Mrs. Adams was buried here. Mrs. Burns says in her letter:
"The passing of Mrs. Eugenia Merle Adams widow of the late George P. Adams and a descendent of one of the early prominent families of Contra Costa County on July 26, ended a long beautiful and useful life. Her grandparents were Martina and Ygnacio Martinez after whom the town of Martinez takes its name.
"Don Ygnacio Martinez was Commandante of the Presidio of San Francisco, then Yerba Buena, from 1817 to 1829. He later filled the office of Alcalde of the same city.
"The mother of Mrs. Adams was Susana Martinez and her father Benoit Vasocor Merle. Mrs. Adams was born In Martinez, where she spent the early days of her life and after her marriage to Mr. Adams, a most worthy gentleman, and prominent Mason, lived In San Francisco for many years, where she made a host of friends.
"Mrs. Adams had no children but was devoted to her nieces and nephews.
"She leaves three sisters: Madeline Crow, Mrs. Martina Mills, Mrs. Susana Gordon and a brother, P. S. Merle and several nieces and nephews to mourn her loss."
