John Dawson Funk, son of W. S. And Ellen Funk, was born in Mahaska County Iowa July 10, 1887 and departed this life October 31, 1947, aged 60 years, three months and 21 days.

Mr. Funk was schooled in Kirkville schools and lived in the Kirkville in Cedar communities all his life.

April 28, 1910, he was United in marriage to Vera May Bennett of Kirkville and to this union two children were born; David Herold Funk of Cedar, and Margaret Brummel of Oskaloosa.

Early in his life he became a member of the Kirkville Methodist church, a relationship which he retained until his death.

Mr. and Mrs. Funk spent all their married life on their present farm. He was a good neighbor and friend and will be missed in his community. He was devoted to his wife and family and gave himself unselfishly to their happiness and welfare.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and two children; three grandchildren, Carol Ann Brummel, Sheryl Mae and John David Funk; one brother, James M. Funk of Ottumwa and one sister, Mrs. Howard Rickert of Selma. One sister and one brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Monday at Kirkville Methodist Church with Rev. Lois E. Payne, assisted by Rev. A. A. Heath of Oskaloosa, officiating.

Pallbearers were John, Eldon and Frank Moore, Dwight Picken, Thad Picken, Tom Gullick. Music by Mrs Dwight Picken, accompanied by Miss Dell Auld. Burial was in the Memorial lawn cemetery.
