James M. Funk, 65, died of a heart attack at 11:30 pm Sunday at his home 1 1/2 miles east of Ottumwa.

The son of William S. and Ellen Moore Funk, he was born Feb. 17, 1885 near Kirkville. He was married March 28, 1910 to Laura Lily Carnes, who survives. He also leaves two daughters, Mrs. Florence Davis of Batavia and Mrs. Francis Stansberry of Ottumwa; two sons, Robert W. Funk of San Diego and Richard M. Funk of Panama, both serving in the navy; a sister, Mrs. J. H. Rickert of Selma; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A son, Clarence Roy, 2 brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

The Rev. and Mrs Lawrence Hight will conduct the services. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery at Kirkville.

Pallbearers will be Charles Myer, Phillip Dykes, Emery Rupe, Ed McMillen, George Bissell and Charles Skinner.
