Anna was born at Elk Lake (now Camp Brule), Sullivan County, Pa. 0n July 11, 1898. She was the seventh of eight children born to John D. and Anna Eliza Stephenson Kunzman. She was proud of her rich ancestry, being a descendant of John Wilcox, who was an early pioneer of Sullivan County, Pa. At age 13, Anna left home to work and spent the better part of her life traveling and working in various parts of the country. She often talked about two of her career choices. One was running a boarding house at Carbon Run on Barclay Mountain. The other was owning and operating two bars in Jacksonville, Fla. After retirement, Anna could not be idle and spent three years making quilts, which she sold to supplement her income. Those who own quilts by Anna treasure them for the excellent quality and craftsmanship put into each one.
