Chris Conlon, one of the well known farmers of Great Oak township, and a long-time resident of our county, passed away at his farm home Saturday, May 30. Death came as a result of an illness from which he suffered for several weeks. During the days preceding his death, his condition was considered critical. The funeral was held in Emmetsburg Tuesday morning. A requiem high mass was celebrated in the Assumption Church in this city by the pastor, Rev. E. A. Dunn. Near the close of the services, Rev. W.P. Mason of Ayrshire preached the funeral sermon. Mr. Conlon was a member of the Sacred Heart parish of Ayrshire. Interment was in St. John's Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The pallbearers were Michael Dailey, P.C. Jackman, Dennis Noonan, Mike Kennedy, Thomas Conlon, and Will Freeman. Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Foy Funeral home. Christopher Conlon, son of the late Thomas and Anna Muldoon Conlon, was born at Morris, Illinois on February 15, 1867. Hence, at the time of his passing, he was 69 years of age. When a young man, he was united in marriage to Margaret Molloy in 1887. Five children were born to them. Mrs. Molloy passed away in 1904. Mr. Conlon was united in marriage in 1906 to Miss Bertha Peterson. To this union eight children were born. Two sons preceded their father in death. They are Harry, who passed away in 1917, and William, who died in 1934. He is survived by Mrs. Conlon, and the sons and daughters, who are: Roy Conlon, Wagner, South Dakota; Charles Conlon, Emmetsburg; Marion (Bob) Conlon, Emmetsburg; Frank Conlon, Emmetsburg; Mrs. Cecil (Marie Agnes) Baxter, Ayrshire; and Edward, James, Maurice, Irene, Joseph and Dorothy, all of Great Oak township. A sister, (Mary Ann) Mrs. Mike Mahan, passed away at Graettinger, as did a brother, Will Conlon, who died at Sheldon, Iowa. Mr. Conlon, during his lifetime in our county, enjoyed the good will and esteem of a large circle of acquaintances. He had a happly , genial disposition and he was loyal to those whom he counted as his friends. He was the parent of a large family of sons and daughters, who knew him as a provident father, and one who took a sincere interest in their welfare. His passing will be regretted by the large number of friends and neighbors who knew him as a good farmer and an upright citizen. The Democrat joins with many in extending sincere sympathy to Mrs. Conlon and the sons and daughters in the loss they have sustained.
