Emerson Ellsworth Hamlin, was born November 18, 1867, and passed away September 28, 1954, at the age of 86 years, bringing to a close a life of devotion to his family and friends. His faith in the ideals of private and civic living which he exemplified and championed in his younger years, set the pattern of his entire life. Mr. Hamlin, the son of John and Druzella Hamlin, was born in Putnam County, Missouri, March 23, 1891. He married Laura Belle Beary and to this union five daughters were born: Ann Isabell Trim, Woodrow, CO; Barbara N. Hills, Joliet, IL; Hazel Emerson Nickell, Geroa, CO; Halsey Jordan Middlemist, Laird, CO; and Joy Beary Trim, the third daughter who preceded her father in death. He lost his wife in 1916. He then moved his family to Colorado where he became a prominent Woodrow rancher. In 1919, Mr. Hamlin married Dora M. Awmiller, who became a devoted and wonderful wife. To them was born one daughter, Mary Hope Morman of Woodrow, CO. Throughout his life Mr. Hamlin was interested in politics, taking an active part in local and community government, always working for the betterment of the land he loved. He was a forceful speaker, a talented musician, and enjoyed meeting and entertaining people. In his youth, he organized the Hamlin Drum and Bugle Corp. He was the last living member of this musical group. His life has made a lasting impression here and at his boyhood home which he dearly loved. Though in poor health for many years, Mr. Hamlin never complained and said many times, "God has been good to me. I've lived a good, long, useful life." He was a member of the Howard Methodist Church of Last Chance. Besides his wife, Dora Hamlin and five daughters, Mr. Hamlin leaves one sister, Mrs. Charles Pollock of Powersville, MO, 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Willard C., a former Brush resident, and Lloyd U., and five sisters, Susie Porter, Nettie Harbert, Delia Smith, Della Howard and Leola Pollock, preceded him in death. Funeral services for Mr. Hamlin were held from the Brush Methodist Church October 2, 1954, with the Rev. Jack Frick officiating. Pall Bearers were Essa Harbert, Davy Harbert, Frank Landaker, Clark Hamlin, Archie Chapman, and Clarence Trim. Those who attended the funeral services from outside the community were Mrs. Barbara Hills, Joliet, IL; Mr. and Mrs. David Middlemist, Laird, CO; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pollock, Powersville, MO; Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Hamlin and son, Centerville, IA; Mr. and Mrs. Clark Hamlin, La Grande, OR; Mrs. Lloyd Winger, Mr. and Mrs. E.
