Benjamin Ewan of the New Jersey Steel and Iron Company died at his residence in Dolton's Block at 6:25 o'clock last evening.
The deceased was known and esteemed by a large number of friends in this city, and his death will be a blow not only to his immediate family, but to all those with whom he came in contact.
Mr. Ewan was born near Mount Holly in 1828, at which place he learned the drug business; but this not agreeing with his health he gave it up and came to Tenton about eighteen years ago.
Mr. Ewan had been connected with the New Jersey Steel and Iron Works for about ten years. He had been a ruling elder in the Third Presbyterian Church for about the same length of time.
He died of Bright's disease and was taken sick at the home of his son, Mr. George R. Ewan, former business manager of The Trenton Times, at Morristown, N.Y., last December. His illness has been continuous since except for two months during the summer.
Mr. Ewan leaves a wife and two sons, George R. and Horace, the latter being in Corpus Christi, Texas. Mrs. Ewan has been constant in her devotion through his long illness, and the family have the sympathy of numerous friends.
The funeral will take place on Thursday from the Third Presbyterian Church at 11 o'clock A.M. Interment private at Riverview Cemetery.
